The Adam Center for Human Rights, affiliated with the Marja'iyya in Karbala, held a specialized symposium titled "Which Takes Precedence: Power or Freedom?"

The event was attended by researchers, university professors, and directors of research centers, and featured a presentation by Dr. Alaa Ibrahim Al-Husseini, who delivered a paper analyzing the position of freedom in relation to authority.

In his analysis, Dr. Al-Husseini traced the historical and philosophical roots of the debate—from ancient Greece to the Enlightenment era—and argued that Iraq’s Constitution lacks a proper balance between freedom and authority, with the law often favoring power at the expense of liberty.

He emphasized the need to strengthen individual rights in the face of social dominance, and warned about the fragile nature of freedoms under the influence of unchecked authority in both political and social spheres.
