The Al-Furat Center for Development and Strategic Studies, an institution affiliated with the Religious Authority in the holy city of Karbala, held a seminar focused on "The Economic and Political Dimensions of U.S. Tariffs."
The event took place at the headquarters of the Al-Naba’ Cultural and Media Foundation, where Dr. Hussein Al-Sarhan, a researcher at the Al-Furat Center, presented an analytical paper that was subsequently discussed and examined.
The paper emphasized that the policy of imposing tariffs in the United States is a long-standing tool used to protect the domestic economy. Various U.S. presidents have employed this policy to achieve trade objectives and reduce reliance on imports.
Dr. Al-Sarhan highlighted the role of tariffs in regulating the balance of payments and controlling inflation, describing them as a key instrument of macroeconomic policy that synergizes with other fiscal and monetary strategies.
