On the occasion of the arrival of the month of Muharram, the women’s section of the Zaynabiya Seminary—one of the centers affiliated with the religious authority in Damascus, Syria—began holding its Ashura mourning ceremonies. These gatherings are held in the seminary's Husayniyah (congregation hall) from the first day of Muharram until the tenth of this sacred month.
On the first day of the ceremony, the program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an and the reading of the Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). Then, one of the women spoke about the sufferings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and led the mourning rituals. After that, one of the seminary’s instructors delivered a speech, and finally, another mourning session was held.
