On the International Day of Peace, the Imam Shirazi World Foundation called on the international community to make serious efforts to end wars and conflicts and to prioritize dialogue, diplomacy, and confidence-building among countries. The foundation also warned of the humanitarian and security consequences of continuing conflicts and regional and international tensions.

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21. In 2026, it is being marked under the United Nations theme, “Investing in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” as the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly enters its high-level week.

In a statement issued for the occasion, the Washington-based foundation said that the anniversary of the International Day of Peace represents “an important human and moral milestone” that calls on governments, organizations, and individuals to pause responsibly to assess the state of international peace and security and work to end cycles of violence and war.

While reaffirming its commitment to the values of love and tolerance, the foundation called for greater focus on diplomatic efforts and mutual confidence-building as two essential tools for resolving conflicts, instead of arms-based policies and threats of the use of force and their destructive humanitarian consequences.

The Imam Shirazi World Foundation stated that, in its view, achieving peace is closely linked to respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It called for the release of prisoners of conscience around the world and for efforts to advance political and social reforms in ways that respond to peoples’ aspirations for security, freedom, and a dignified life.

The foundation also expressed the view that the United Nations General Assembly meetings during the current session provide an opportunity for world leaders to strengthen political and diplomatic solutions and turn calls for peace into practical measures to reduce the risks posed by conflicts. The general debate of the 81st session is scheduled for September 22–26 and September 28, 2026.

The foundation concluded its statement by stressing the need to rise to the level of human responsibility and give priority to reason and wisdom in ways that contribute to ending wars, protecting the lives of civilians, and strengthening opportunities for peace and stability around the world.
