The Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) Center, affiliated with the religious authority of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hussaini Shirazi, and located in the city of Mahajanga, Madagascar, celebrated its tenth anniversary this week. The event was held on Sunday, the 7th of Shawwal, at the city’s House of Culture, with the participation of scholars, cultural figures, and followers of the Ahl al-Bayt school of thought.
The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith al-Kisa. Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Muhammad Razi Wasaram, representative of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi in Mahajanga and head of the center, then delivered a speech outlining the center’s ten years of activity and achievements.
The event also featured the closing ceremony of the Arbaeen Pilgrimage Memorization and Book Reading Competitions, with valuable prizes awarded to the participants. Additional segments included poetry recitations, eulogies, a theatrical performance by the youth of the Sultan al-Muallifin Hussainiya, recognition of affiliated teachers, and the distribution of gifts to attendees.
The Ahl al-Bayt Center is the first officially established center affiliated with Grand Ayatollah Shirazi's religious authority in Madagascar. Since its founding, it has played a vital role in hosting religious events, promoting Islamic knowledge, and training students in religious sciences. Its ongoing programs include weekly gatherings, commemorations of Islamic occasions, and structured outreach efforts.
By educating and supporting local preachers, the center has helped many people in Madagascar embrace the path of the Ahl al-Bayt and the Shia faith. These efforts have significantly raised awareness of Shiism in the country and established the center as a respected religious and cultural institution.
Today, the center is recognized as an influential hub for promoting the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt and strengthening ties with the religious authority of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi. Several additional institutions have been established under the guidance of Hujjat al-Islam Wasaram, including the Umm al-Banin Center, Sultan al-Muallifin Student Dormitory, Sultan al-Muallifin Hussainiya, Imam Hassan Center, and Lady Fatima al-Zahra Center—all of which continue their activities in Madagascar.
