On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, the World Organization for Anti-Violence (Free Muslim)—affiliated with the International Foundation of Grand Ayatollah Sadiq Husayni Shirazi issued the following statement:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
On August 23, we stand in solidarity with all victims of violence based on religion or belief.
The World Organization for Anti-Violence (Free Muslim) affirms that violence, in all its forms, is fundamentally incompatible with the higher human and religious principles that call for mercy, justice, and mutual respect.
We strongly reject all forms of extremism and hate speech that misuse religion to justify violence or persecution. No religion can be an excuse for harming another human being. True faith is a source of peace, security, and coexistence—not a tool for division or bloodshed.
We consider this day an opportunity to renew our commitment to promoting a culture of non-violence and tolerance, and to reject everything that divides people on the basis of belief.
We call on governments, religious institutions, and civil society to intensify efforts to protect freedom of religion and belief, ensuring every individual’s right to practice their faith in peace and security. We also urge action to address the roots of hatred and discrimination, while fostering dialogue and understanding among followers of different religions and beliefs.
On this day, we remember the victims, honor their painful memory, and renew our pledge to work towards building a world where all people—regardless of religious, sectarian, or ideological affiliation—enjoy peace and security.
