The International Nonviolence Organization, an affiliate of the Global Foundation of Supreme Religious Authority Ayatollah Shirazi, issued a statement on the occasion of World Charity Day.

The statement reads:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Marking World Charity Day, observed annually on September 5, the International Nonviolence Organization emphasizes that charitable activities are the foundation for building humane and cohesive societies governed by mercy, justice, and peace, particularly at a time when the world is facing economic crises and bloody conflicts whose severe consequences are borne by the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

The simple and accessible teachings of Islam have left no avenue of goodness unopened. They regard assisting those in need as both a human and religious duty, with the sole aim of preserving human dignity, regardless of a person's race, gender, or beliefs. In this regard, the organization recalls the most important Islamic principles and guidelines concerning charitable and humanitarian activities:

Preserving the dignity of those in need and avoiding harm:

Islamic teachings emphasize the importance of protecting the dignity of those who receive charitable assistance. They associate charity and giving with kindness in words and actions and prohibit reminding recipients of one's generosity or causing them harm. God Almighty says:

“O you who have faith! Do not render your charities void by reproaches and affronts...”

Sustainability and broad benefits:

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his Household, emphasizes transforming charitable efforts from temporary, consumptive assistance into sustainable development projects, such as endowments, providing water, and building public facilities, so that their benefits continue and their effects endure over time.

Cooperation and social solidarity:

Islam regards social solidarity as a shared duty and responsibility. It is narrated from Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his household: “Whoever goes to sleep satisfied while his neighbor beside him is hungry, knowing about it, has not believed in me.” This statement clearly demonstrates the need for individual and social responsibility toward the hungry and disadvantaged.

Sincerity in intention and spreading a culture of peace:

The Islamic approach to rejecting violence and practicing charity emphasizes that humanitarian efforts should stem from sincere compassion and a desire to spread peace and coexistence. They should remain free from political objectives or media exploitation so that they can become a genuine bridge bringing peoples closer together.

The International Nonviolence Organization concluded its statement by calling on all governments, international organizations, and conscientious individuals to coordinate their efforts, expand the scope of charitable initiatives, and remove the obstacles facing humanitarian workers, so that lives can be saved and a safer and more stable future can be built for all humanity.
